Guarujá occupies Santo Amaro island on the São Paulo coast and has long been the beach destination closest to the city of São Paulo. The beaches of Pernambuco, Enseada and Tijucopava hold most high-end houses.
Many properties are in gated communities with their own beach, such as Iporanga, and serve as weekend homes for families from São Paulo.
